Welcome from the Head
As Headteacher I am very proud of our school and all that we achieve together. It is a privilege for me to have this opportunity to share with you the fantastic community of children, parents, staff, governors, our ‘Friends Association’, volunteers and indeed our relationship with the wider community too. Our supportive and strong partnership means we achieve so much together. We are proud of our fully inclusive approach and our strong commitment to educating the whole child. We are a happy school. Visitors frequently comment on the friendly, positive and welcoming atmosphere. We have a good reputation in both the local and wider community. We like to learn together, and enjoy celebrating success. Kinsale Junior is a co-educational, community junior school for pupils between the ages of 7 and 11 years. In September 2007 we became a Junior School for Key Stage 2 children, from Years 3 to 6. We provide well for children during this important stage of their life. We are well resourced and have an experienced and skilled teaching staff, who are able to cater for the needs of every child.
There are currently seven classes but in September we will be eight classes, two in each year group. There are approximately 200 pupils on roll, we anticipate 230 in September. We have a large hall (with a stage), which is used for school assemblies, P.E. and drama as well as for school lunches. We have a number of specialist areas including an upgraded ICT room, music room, large library and a purpose built food technology room. We have a canopy fitted outside for use for outside activities and protection against the sun. In 2010 we completed an entire window replacement project, and more recently we had new carpets in the corridors, a wonderful new outside classroom, amphitheatre and we have also created a wildlife area. We have upgraded the ICT provision in the hall and had stage lighting fixed. Our office area was extended and refurbished, we made improvements to the Staff room and at Easter the staff toilets were refurbished. Last year we had new energy efficient lights fitted throughout the school, our boilers were replaced and the kitchen had a new canopy fitted to improve the ventilation.
Kinsale is a non-denominational school. The daily assembly is a Christian act of worship, which, we believe, broadly reflects the beliefs and values of the parents and local community. We invite a number of Church Leaders to lead assembly. We are fully inclusive and celebrate our multicultural society. We hope this prospectus will help to give you some idea of what we seek to do. Our school motto ‘Learning and Achievement for All’ is very real, come and visit to see for yourself. If you would like to see the school in action please telephone to make an appointment. I would be very pleased to show you around.
